Life Coaching
Life coaching involves discovering new ways to help cope with life challenges. Based on the success of Duke University Center for Integrative Medicine's Health Coaching Program, MSAA is offering Life Coaching to individuals affected by multiple sclerosis (MS). MSAA's Life Coaching Program focuses specifically on challenges that individuals affected by MS find most difficult to manage. MSAA's life coach teaches problem-solving strategies using real-life events to help people with MS find practical solutions. Group sessions will be conducted via telephone and online. Some areas of focus will include the following:
- Adjustment to the illness, including the long-term impact of living with MS
- Health and wellness issues
- Stress management
- Work/life balance
- Family relationships
- Medication adherence issues
- Self advocacy
- Resource identification
- Behavioral approaches to pain management
- Planning for the future
Anyone with a desire to learn new techniques in coping with MS can benefit from Life Coaching. This service typically involves weekly toll-free telephone sessions and a variety of "homework" type assignments to reflect upon between coaching sessions.
