The book, “Multiple Sclerosis, The Questions You Have - The Answers
You Need,” second edition, is a wonderful resource for anyone with
MS or those close to someone with the disease. At first glance, I thought
that I would only want to read sections pertaining to my clinical picture,
but the book drew me in and I couldn't put it down. Written by experts in
the field of MS and using a question and answer format, this book encompasses
virtually every type of scenario that a person with this illness may encounter.
One of the chapters is on the neurological aspects of MS. It includes answers to questions about the different types of fatigue and pain that a person with MS may experience, along with various options a person can use to manage these common symptoms. The chapter titled, “Treatment Issues,” defines many types of therapies and answers the question as to why drug approval takes so long.
The chapters on physical and occupational therapy explore techniques to
make daily chores easier, and a chapter on sexuality describes ways to make
this part of life more fulfilling. In addition, questions are answered about
pregnancy and how it may affect MS.
Chapters on employment, insurance, and long-term care are presented with
concerns about whether to tell an employer about a diagnosis of MS and what
can be expected. Types of long-term care are also discussed.
Extensive resources are offered at the end of these chapters. The book also has a comprehensive glossary followed by a 90-page appendix of MS medications.
This 600-page book is one of the most comprehensive question and answer books you could find without a question left unanswered. From the beginning of a diagnosis, throughout the whole journey of MS, this book can always be referred to regardless of what arises.
