Offering Lifelines...
for information, support, and advocacy
MSAA's Helpline may be reached by calling (800) 532-7667 Monday through Thursday, 8:30 am to 7:00 pm, eastern time, Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, eastern time. For bilingual service, please dial extension 108
MSAA's toll-free telephone Helpline at (800) 532-7667 allows individuals with MS, family members, and care partners, to speak directly with one of MSAA's experienced and trained consultants who can discuss the many issues and emotions that accompany MS. Our consultants can offer information and encouragement, teaming with clients and their care partners to identify obstacles and discover ways to overcome them. They may also recommend the programs offered by MSAA that would be of help to the caller, and assist him or her with the application process.
The Helpline is an excellent resource for learning about local professionals and services through an extensive national database developed by MSAA's Resource Detectives Program. This program employs volunteers from across the nation, many of whom are members of the MS community. These volunteer "detectives" seek out information about programs, professionals, and other local resources, which are of benefit to those affected by MS. This information is then entered into a specially designed data system for easy retrieval by the Helpline staff.
Additional areas in which Helpline consultants may assist include: information on MS research, treatments, and pharmaceutical assistance programs; legal issues, such as Social Security and Disability Insurance, Americans with Disabilities Act, and employment; as well as information on other types of services, such as support groups, patient education, counseling, rehabilitation, physical and occupational therapy, and other wellness programs. Helpline consultants can also help clients and care partners to prepare questions for visits with their physicians.
MSAA's Helpline offers a bilingual service to members of the Spanish-speaking community. Individuals who would like to speak with someone in Spanish about MS information, support, and community resources may call the Helpline at (800) 532- 7667, extension 108.
MSAA staff as well as caring volunteers make reassurance calls and send email correspondence to clients, letting them know of MSAA's concern and informing them of upcoming MSAA activities and events. These contacts help to raise spirits and give individuals an opportunity to discuss any issues they may have on their mind, or to simply enjoy a conversation with someone who understands.
