Up Front

This edition of The Motivator features inspiration as its theme. The cover story is about a group of six individuals with MS who attempt to climb Denali (also known as Mt. McKinley) in Alaska without any outside assistance. Eric Simons, businessman, motivational speaker, mountain climber, and MS client, is leading this historic venture. Eric does everything with enthusiasm and indomitable will; his “lead by example” persona is truly one of inspiration.

Many of us have had the good fortune to work with or learn from others who have this zest for life and “can-do” attitude. One of the most important lessons that we can learn from these people is that they take responsibility for themselves. No blaming others, no “woe is me” mentality, no “if only...” They have learned to deal with the here and now and they embrace the challenges as inspiration for their souls. The more we view our lives from a self-help perspective, the more we will gain while accomplishing our goals.

Inspirers lead by example... They are infectious with their enthusiasm… They see possibilities instead of problems… They pursue a clearly defined path of what it is that they want to achieve. Inspired by others, propelled forward by positive role models and examples, all limits can be overcome. You don't need a lot of resources to imagine, plan, and pursue what it is you want out of life.

People who inspire set their goals high! They strive to stretch beyond their reach. They don't settle for less because they are afraid of hard work or emotional disappointments. They seek out opportunities to achieve all that they can. Some let life slip by, while others are inspired to go for all that they can.

The great French philosopher Voltaire once said: “Four thousand volumes of metaphysics will not teach us what the soul is.” Those who inspire us every day, even in very small ways, are the essence of “soul models” for us and for our MS constituency. Passing on lessons by example is the greatest gift. Dig deep for courage. Those who continue to challenge themselves, despite their obstacles or limitations, are the ones who live life to the fullest.
